The MC3 Perinatal expansion initiative represents a package solution funded by Michigan Department of Health and Human Services for making psychiatry consultations and integrated telehealth screening and counseling for pregnant and postpartum women more feasible and widely available.

  • We have 4 Behavioral Health Consultants (BHCs) ready to provide support through MC3/HT2 Perinatal. They can take more referrals from MC3-enrolled providers in clinics located in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Genesee, and Ingham counties.

  • The MC3/HT2 Perinatal program, currently available in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Genesee, and Ingham counties, combines an app-based patient self-screener and intervention tool (the High Touch, High Tech, HT2, portion) with the same-day perinatal psychiatry consultation service for obstetricians and other perinatal providers (the MC3 Perinatal portion). HT2 not only screens for perinatal mood, anxiety, substance use, trauma and stress, but also connects women with licensed Behavioral Health Consultants (BHCs) in real time to provide remote case management and brief evidence-based therapy for free and in a frequency (weekly, bi-weekly, etc.) and modality (phone, texting, email, video chat) that women want. The BHCs provide on average 5-8 sessions and at no cost.

  • Since implementation in June 2021, our remote BHCs received 64 referrals and actively supported 38 pregnant and postpartum patients from 5 prenatal clinics across Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw Counties. Women utilizing the service averaged ages 25-35, 50% were Medicaid-eligible, and over 40% met criteria for clinical depression or anxiety at baseline.
