School-Based Consultation FAQs

Our consultants, including child and adolescent psychiatrists and psychologists, offer specialized expertise in the emotional, developmental, and psychiatric needs of students, including:

  • Anxiety, including school avoidance and selective mutism
  • Depression and other mood disorders
  • ADHD
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Eating disorders
  • Substance use disorders
  • Trauma
  • Challenging behaviors

No question is too small! As school professionals, you know your students best and recognize that early intervention leads to better outcomes. We encourage you to consult with our team as soon as you recognize the need – don’t wait until you’re stuck!

  • The MC3 consultants will have access to the information that was submitted in the online consult request.
  • It may be helpful to have access to the student’s records or testing results.
  • We understand that the information you have may be limited – no worries!
  • Consider other school staff that you would like to include in the consultation. MC3 staff will request their email and add them to the invitation.
  • At this time, caregivers and students cannot attend the consultation.

Consultations typically last 45 minutes. This includes:

  1. The MC3 group facilitator will summarize your consultation submission and clarify your specific questions (5 minutes)
  2. School professionals will have the opportunity to briefly share any additional details relevant to the consultation (5 minutes)
  3. MC3 Consulting Specialists will ask clarifying questions to gain an understanding of why this student may be struggling and how MC3 can support the school professionals (10 minutes)
  4. MC3 Consulting Specialists will share recommendations and relevant resources (25 minutes)
  • A written summary will be provided via email to whomever submitted the MC3 consultation request.
  • We recommend that you review the consultation summary internally and share any relevant resources with the family as appropriate.
  • Follow-up consultations are welcome! We recognize that the students you’re working with may have complex concerns and require more than one consultation.

If you have any further questions, we invite you to email [email protected] for more information.
